I think I saw that in a Discovery or History Channel special about canals, maybe it was Modern Marvels. Anyway, all I could think about was how ugly it would have been if it was a public works project in the US. I think Ty knows something about trashing nice bridge designs for state roads.
Yeah, the Brits really know a thing or two about engineering as art. Of course, the Brits pretty much invented modern engineering and designed most of the prettiest steam engines (granted, a steam engine isn't really something you think of as needing to be pretty--but neither is a canal lock).
